SLSAQ calls annual general meeting for February 6

The Sri Lanka Sports Association’s  annual general meeting will be held from 5pm on February 6 at the Garden City Library, Garden City Shopping Centre, Upper Mt Gravatt.

Nominations are open for the positions of president, one vice-president, secretary, treasurer, assistant secretary, assistant treasurer, and eight ordinary members for the committee.

Eligibility

All financial members of SLSAQ may nominate one person only, for the above positions, which include the financial member.

If the nominating individual, is a member of a financial member’s immediate family, the individual, must be a person acting under the authority of a power of attorney given by the financial member of SLSAQ.

“Immediate family” of a financial member mean the following persons:

(a) The individual’s spouse;

(b) Each of the children of the individual or the individual’s spouse, who is 18 years or more,  including a step child or an adopted child;

(c) Each of the individual’s parents, including a step parent;

(d) A brother or sister of the individual nominated for the membership of the committee by an SLSAQ member (The “nominating entity”) must also be a financial member of the SLSAQ.

Voting

A person is eligible to be a voting member at the AGM, provided the person is a financial Member of the SLSAQ and has been a member for 12 months.

Non-eligibility committee membership

A person who is otherwise eligible under the preceding conditions to be a member of the committee is not eligible if that person is:

1. Committee member of an opposing sporting body.

2. A known bankrupt or becomes a bankrupt.

3. A director of a company that was liquidated or is subject to the appointment of a provisional liquidator or an administrator.

4. A person who has had an adverse criminal record.

5. A person known to be an affiliate of an organisation, which is blacklisted by the Australian Authority.

An SLSAQ member is not eligible to be a voting member of the SLSAQ if the member owes a debt to SLSAQ when the members of the committee are chosen, Individuals nominated for the membership of the committee by a SLSAQ member (The “nominating entity”) must also be a financial member of the SLSAQ Qld.

The committee must consist of at least nine, but no more than 11 people. If nine persons or less nominate, they are automatically elected. Nominations are only called from the floor of the meeting where there are no nominations for a position or where the total number of nominations is less than nine.
