Carnival of Cricket action at Kianawah Park on Sunday

The Sri Lanka Sports Association’s annual Carnival of Cricket will be held at Kianawah Park, Wynnum Road, Tingalpa on Sunday, April 21. The event features 8-a-side Old Boys Schools and Open Club tournaments.

MATCH RULES

A. Each participating team(s) MUST NOMINATE 8 PLAYERS FOR THE GAME
before play commences.
B. Batting team(s) MUST provide a SCORER (in an instance where SLSAQ Committee has given prior
notification) for the game.
C. Batting team(s) MUST provide a LEG UMPIRE for the game, to save time next batsmen in to stand in
as Leg Umpire.
D. Allocation of overs will be 7 Overs (for Club Matches) & 7 Overs (for School Matches) per team
and maximum of 1 Over per bowler.

  1. One (1) over is defined as maximum of Six (6) legitimate balls.
  2. Underarm bowling will result in a No Ball.
    E. Red 2-piece or 4-piece hardball will be used for All Games.
    F. Only ONE end of the wicket will be used for batting in each game, so Wicketkeeper can be
    stationed on the same side of the batter. This is to save time between overs.
    G. Once a Batsman has scored 35 Runs:
    i. Must Compulsorily Retire.
    ii. 35 Runs is the Restricted Benchmark.
  3. These restrictions will not apply if the last two Batsmen are at the crease, and there are no
    more Players left to bat.
    iii. Only Permitted to recommence their innings after All Team Members are Dismissed (OUT).
    iv. Once the Retired Batsman (who Compulsorily Retired after scoring 35 runs) recommences their
    innings for the second time, they Do Not need to Compulsorily Retire a second time.
    v. If Rules Noted are Not Followed, the Batsman will be deemed as OUT without any further
    consideration or discussion and Runs Scored Deducted from Final Score achieved by their respective
    team.
    vi. This decision is Not up for Discussion at Any Given Time (before, during or after the
    tournament) and No Variations can be Proposed at any time (before, during or after the tournament).

H. Standard International Cricket Rules will be used during the tournament.
I. Main Umpire has the final say.
J. Every Batsman will have to wear a batting helmet while batting.
K. No fielding restrictions applicable during the game except for the wicketkeeper.
I. The wicket-keeper CANNOT stand on the boundary line.
II. The wicket-keeper MUST wear PADS at all times. Umpires have the right to action this practice
and failing to do so will result in DISQUALIFICATION.
L. Substitution is only allowed in a case of legitimate injury.
i. The substitute(s) are only PERMITTED to Field.
ii. NOT Permitted to Bat or Bowl in any circumstances.
M. If a Player(s) is injured while Bowling one of the 7 Overs (Club Matches) or 7 Overs (School
Matches), and can no longer complete their over:
i. The Player who was picked to bowl the next over will NOT
be permitted to complete the over.
ii. Instead, the Captain can select any other Player to compete the unfinished over.
iii. If one player gets injured, the remaining 7 players will have to bowl.
iv. If two players get injured in the same game, opposition captain will select the 7ᵗʰ bowler.
v. This is NOT up for Discussion and failing to do so will Result
in DISQUALIFICATION.
N. Due to any change in circumstances The Cricket Sub Committee – SLSAQ Cricket Sub Committee shall
reduce the number of overs to accommodate the smooth progress of the tournament.
O. ONE RUN will be awarded for a WIDE BALL and EXTRA BALL would be required to be bowled until a
legitimate over is completed.
P. ONE RUN will be awarded for a NO BALL plus any runs scored and A FREE HIT will be allowed. EXTRA
BALL to be bowled until a legitimate over is completed.
Q. TIME RESTRICTIONS APPLY. It is the Captain’s Responsibility that their Team (applies to both
SCHOOLS and CLUBS) plays within the time allocated as per the Match Schedule, the Team that does NOT Adhering to this Rule will be Penalised.
i. This applies to BOTH Bowling and Batting Teams.
ii. Prior WARNING (ONLY THE FIRST INSTANCE) will be given to a Captain of their respective team by
the Umpire and/or, Match Referee and/or Scorer.
iii. Thereafter NO further Warning will be given and will result in a reduced over rate and/or
target (runs or score) to attain.
iv. If the Batting team Violates this Rule – the runs scored during the allocated time will be
considered as their Final Score to attain.
v. If the Bowing team Violates this Rule – the Bowling team is still required to complete the
number of overs in a minimum time frame, and the team bowling second is ONLY Required to bowl the
number of overs reached within the timeframe allocated.
vi. “No Exceptions Will Made” as the Umpires, Match Referee and Scorers will keep close watch to
implement this rule and the Main Umpire and/or Match Referee will have the final say.
R. Any Delay over 15 minutes to start a game will result in forfeiture of the match and points
awarded to the opposition team. Minimum of 6 players per side needed to start a match.
S. In the event of a walkover, opposition teams run rate will be calculated based on their previous
matches and action will be taken by the SLSAQ Cricket Committee for the team forfeited the match.
T. Run Rate will be based on batting net run-rate in the Match.
U. If tournament is affected due to Bad Weather before play or during the tournament, the SLSAQ
Committee reserves the right to adopt the best possible outcome.
i. SLSAQ Management Committee to reach a decision with the assistance of the Cricket Sub-Committee.
ii. All possible scenarios will be considered.
iii. The SLSAQ Management Committee and the Chairman of the Cricket sub-Committee will make the
Final decision to best suite the Tournament.
V. In the event of a Tie, the modified Super Over concept will be used.
The team that batted second in the main match will bat first in the Super Over.

  1. Each team must nominate three batsmen before start of the 1ˢᵗ super over.
  2. Each team must nominate a bowler before the start of the 1ˢᵗ super over.
  3. The bowler of the batting team cannot both bat and bowl in the same super over.
  4. Each side has three nominated batsmen, meaning that the loss of two wickets ends the Super Over.
  5. In the event of the scores being level in the Super Over, the team that has scored the MOST
    amounts of Boundaries (regardless of whether
    it is a “4” or “6”) during the Super Over will determine the winner.
  6. In an event where Both Teams having scored the same number of Boundaries (regardless of whether
    it is a “4” or “6”) during the Super Over, the Run Rate achieved by Both Teams during the Super
    Over will be taken into consideration and the Winner will be determined.
  7. In an event where both Teams have the same Run Rate during the Super Over, 6 players from both
    teams will have to bowl at the stumps and hit the wickets. The team that ends up getting the most
    number of wickets will be considered as Winners.
  8. NO other rules will come into play or considered.
