Ananda, Wolfpack emerge winners at cricket carnival

Wolfpack emerged champions in the Clubs division after defeating Ellalan in the final.

Ananda College old boys defeated a determined Dharmaraja College old boys’ team to emerge champions in the Schools division of the Sri Lanka Sports Association’s 5th Annual Carnival of Cricket at the Whites Hill Reserve grounds, Camp Hill,  on October 6.

The competition, played over October 5-6, featured 13 teams in two divisions – Schools and Clubs.

Wolfpack won the Club title by beating Ellalan in the final.

SLSAQ president Prasad Kodikara said the standard of cricket was exceptional, with fine displays of bowling and excellent batting.

“It was the best competition that we all have witnessed over the years by far,” he said.
“We were privileged and honoured to have our chief guest Cr Angela Owen (Calamvale Ward) hand over the trophies and the cheques to the winning captains.”
“We were also delighted to have Cr Fiona Cunningham (Coorparoo Ward) and Louise Jeffs from Cricket Australia join the presentation along with Hon. Consul for Sri Lanka Anton Swan. Anton has been a great supporter of the SLSAQ since inception and we do appreciate it very much.”

The results:

Schools Division:

Champion: Ananda College.

Runner-up: Dharmaraja College.

Best Batsman: Induwara Ranatunga (Ananda College).

Best Bowler: Dhanushka Mitipolarachchi (Dharmaraja College).

Clubs Division:

Champion: Wolfpack.

Runner-up: Ellalan.

Best Batsman: KP Ruban (Ellalan Cricket Club).

Best Bowler: Ranaa Narendran (Ellalan Cricket Club).
