Sri Lanka marks 71st year of independence today

A motorcade travels along the route to Galle Face Green to mark Sri Lanka’s 71st year of independence (Daily Mirror).

Sri Lanka celebrated its 71st year of Independence today, February 4, 2019.

In Colombo, the day was marked with a commemoration ceremony and parade on Galle Face Green.

The country won independence from British rule on February 4, 1948.

Last year, the Queensland community marked the milestone 70th year with a cultural show and dinner, organised by the Federation of Sri Lankan Organisations of Queensland.
