Gooneratne takes over two-year term as SLSAQ president

Longstanding member of the Sri Lanka Sports Association Sunil Gooneratne was elected new president at the annual general meeting held on Sunday, February 6, at the Garden City Library Upper Mt Gravatt.

Mr Gooneratne, who was previously vice-president, takes over from Lal Mendis who ended his two-year tenure as president.

Nalaka Rajakaruna is the new vice-president while Iyan de Abrew and Kingsley Manickam retained their positions of secretary and treasurer respectively.

Mr Gooneratne said that as Covid-19 restrictions ease the association was hopeful of reintroducing its annual dinner dance, paused for two years, and beginning plans for the popular carnival of cricket later this year.

The SLSAQ recently conducted a successful golf tournament and another is expected to be held this year.
