Prasad Kodikara reports:
The opening ceremony of the Australia-Sri Lanka day-night cricket Test on the first day – Thursday, Janauary 24 – was a special event for me and my colleagues. It turned out to be an unforgettable experience.
I sincerely thank Ms Louise Jeffs, Group Business Development Manager of Cricket Australia, for contacting us and giving us the opportunity to hold the Sri Lanka flag during the playing of the national anthems. The committee members of the Sri Lanka Sports Association of Queensland were thrilled to participate in this historic event.
It was amazing to walk to the centre of the Gabba grounds, a moment we will cherish forever.
The atmosphere in the Sri Lanka fan area was as usual entertaining, with the Papare band in full swing even though the result of the match was not what we all expected.
I wish our national cricket team all the very best for the Second Test starting in Canberra on Friday, February 1.
For the record: Sri Lanka 144 and 139/9 lost to Australia 323 by an innings and 40 runs in the first Test at the Gabba (January 24-26, 2019)
