Spinner Akila Dananjaya took a career-best 6 for 29 to guide Sri Lanka to a crushing 178-run win over South Africa in the fifth one-day international at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Saturday, August 12.
Akila, supported by the pacemen and Dananjaya de Silva, bowled out the Proteas for 121 after Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews had struck a run-a-ball 97 not out to steer his team to 299 for 8 in 50 overs. The South Africans were never in the game after Suranga Lakmal bowled Hashim Amla for a duck in the first over, and Dananjaya followed up with two wickets in successive balls.
South Africa won the five-match series 3-2, but Sri Lanka claimed major honours by beating the South Africans 2-0 in the two-Test series.
The teams now play a T20 international on August 14.
